Radium Resort: Springs Course and Resort Course

These two 18-hole courses, set in the gorgeous Columbia Valley, offer rewarding golfing experiences

Radium Resort in Radium Hot Springs, B.C., is home to two very different and very amazing golf courses. The Springs Course is a championship 18-hole golf course and the Resort Course is a very playable resort-style 18-hole course with three new holes that opened last summer.

The Springs Course

Created by Les Furber, the Springs Course opened in 1988 and is consistently ranked as one of B.C.'s top golf courses.

Joe Evanoff, the assistant general manager at Radium Resort, said the Springs Course offers unbelievable views.

“It’s a beautiful golf course right in the town of Radium (Hot Springs),” Evanoff said. “It is set high on the bluffs overlooking the Columbia Valley wetlands, so you have spectacular views up and down the valley. It’s a championship par-72 golf course with four sets of tee boxes.“

Evanoff said with the choice of tee boxes, the Springs is playable for golfers of all abilities.

Recent improvements to the course include mounding on the first and ninth holes to provide better definition and playability, and new tee boxes at the 15th hole.

To help celebrate the course’s 25th anniversary, the Springs Course will host the prestigious 2013 B.C. Amateur Golf Championship—this is very exciting for everyone in the area and at the resort.

The Springs Course offers Ladies’ Day on Wednesday mornings and Men’s Day on Tuesday afternoons. There is also a couples’ competition every Friday.

An exciting new real estate opportunity—Radium Springs Estates—is available at the Springs. The 20 estate lots within this new gated community are carefully situated on three stunning golf holes that surround the eight-acre parcel. Lots are selling for between $230,000 and $325,000.

The Resort Course

The incredible setting and natural beauty of the Resort Course have made it a Columbia Valley favourite since 1957. It is one of the oldest golf courses in the valley and was transformed into an 18-hole course in 1980 when the hotel and lodge were constructed.

Evanoff explained the style of the course.

“It’s definitely a resort-style course with a traditional design—which means smaller greens, less bunkering and less forced carries onto greens,” said Evanoff. “You can play holes in a variety of ways.”

On July 27, 2012, three brand new holes opened at the course. The Resort Course transformed from a par-69, 5,306-yard course with two tee boxes to a par-71, 6,071-yard course with four sets of tee boxes.

Evanoff said the Resort Course is great for seniors, families, ladies and juniors, but it can still be challenging for lower handicap players, he said, depending on what tee they decide to play from.

The Resort Course has Ladies’ Day on Tuesdays and Men’s Day on Wednesdays; in addition, a group of seniors, the Senior Sluggers, play every Monday.

Whether you choose the Resort Course or the Springs Course, you will not be disappointed.

“With two different styles of golf courses, it’s great to give people options,” said Evanoff. “You’ve got the championship-style golf course down at the Springs and a very family-friendly course with the Resort Course. It’s a nice combination and we’re very excited about the redevelopment program at the Resort (Course). It’s a very beautiful area and both courses offer awe-inspiring views up and down the valley.”

Check out the accommodations

Radium Resort itself has 90 hotel rooms, an indoor pool with a newly renovated hot tub area, and a lovely restaurant and patio that overlooks the golf course. All hotel guests receive a complimentary hot breakfast each day and have access to all resort amenities, including the fitness facility with squash and racquetball courts. All the rooms are set along the golf course, with scenic views offered from the balconies. Radium Resort is a popular venue for weddings in the summer too.
