Perfect combination of wilderness and metropolis

Carved right out of the forest alongside the Shell River yet located just five minutes out of Prince Albert, Kachur’s Golf Club is the perfect combination of wilderness and metropolis.

“Our golfers still get the feeling of nature, with squirrels, beavers, deer and all kinds of birds hanging out on the course,” said Pat Kachur, owner of the club, “but we’re only a five-minute drive from the city.”

With such a variety of wildlife on the course, it’s no wonder that there are occasionally little animal mishaps—including the odd hungry raven stealing golf balls from right under players’ noses, Kachur said.

“Some have even had the pleasure of seeing a friendly old bear,” she added.

Kachur’s Golf Club has two distinct sections on its course—the front seven holes are surrounded by poplar trees and have the added water hazards of the Shell River, while the back 11 holes are cut through natural pine forest.

Kachur noted that the golf course doesn’t have just one, but a variety of signature holes—though the sixth hole is known to be one of the most challenging. Since the hole is stuck in between two branches of the winding river, there are water hazards in every direction. Players need to pay extra attention to their shots, as this hole has hardly any room for error.

Hole 17 on the course is also a particular challenge, according to Kachur.

“(It’s) our longest par 5,” she said, “and known to have a few moguls to make that second and third shot very difficult.”

The challenges at Kachur’s Golf Club provide a fun way to test your skills and leave you wanting to play the course again and again.
