Dave Dale is 89 years old, a Second World War veteran and founder of a successful business. He’s also an amazingly decorated golfer.

“He has won the Christina Lake club championship five times,” said Kevin Maffioli, head professional at Christina Lake Golf Club, “won the Canadian senior over 70 and 75 championship in 1998, and competed for Canada several times in the Tri-Continental Cup against Great Britain and the United States.”

Born and raised in Vancouver, Dale served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Second World War. Dale was shot down over Germany and spent the last six months of the war in a POW camp. When the war ended and he finally got out of the camp, Dale came home to Canada and moved to Grand Forks. It was there that he opened up his own insurance company, Dave Dale Insurance, in 1967.

His company works to maintain the values of a small-town community in the big world of insurance. It also supports a wide variety of local organizations such as the Cancer Society, the Grand Forks Art Gallery, Grand Forks Public Library, the local Rotary Club and many more.

“He is just a really great guy,” said Maffioli. “I remember when I was younger, when I grew up, I wanted to be just like Dave.”

Today, Dale’s insurance business is still going strong and he continues to golf at Christina Lake, where he is certainly one of the club’s favourite patrons.
