This summer, the top 150 senior men (55-plus) in the province will be competing in the BCGA Senior Men’s Provincial Championships at Christina Lake Golf Club from July 21 to 24.

“We’ve hosted a lot of BCGA events before,” said Christina Lake head pro Kevin Maffioli. “We’ve hosted the senior ladies, the juveniles—every couple of years BCGA will bring something back to us that we haven’t seen or hosted before, so it was great that this year they gave us the senior men’s championships.”

The tournament will begin with a practice round on July 21, followed by the competitive rounds from July 22 to 24. Divisions include senior (age 55 and older) and super senior (age 65 and older), each of which is eligible to compete in a variety of events.

The event was won last year at the Eaglepoint Golf Resort in Kamloops, B.C., by Doug Roxburgh of Vancouver, a champion amateur golfer and member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. We hope to see Roxburgh back on the course again for this year’s tournament, keeping the game interesting and competitive.

While checking out the tournament, both spectators and participants alike can find a place to stay at the new RV site installed at Christina Lake Golf Club this season. The park has 27 available sites as well as washrooms, power, water and additional amenities.

“It’s right on the Kettle River, right on golf course property,” said Maffioli, “so it really works into the whole stay-and-play golfing that people have been getting into.”
