Redstone is home to an amazing trail system
Hikers and mountain bikers rub shoulders with golfers at this Rossland golf course

Redstone Golf Resort is a very special golf course. The 18-hole course, designed by Les Furber, offers amazing mountain views and is located in the West Kootenay city of Rossland, B.C.
But Redstone is more than just a golf course and has some interesting features that definitely make it unique.
First of all, Redstone is home to an unusually high number of holes-in-one. The new Redstone opened four years ago and changed the original nine-hole course, built in 1927, into a superb 18-hole experience. In the second year of operating the new course, there were 28 holes-in-ones by female golfers on the course.
Cary Fisher, one of the owners of Redstone, said everyone was shocked.
“It was absolutely phenomenal," he said. "Every week, a lady was getting a hole-in-one. We actually thought there was a conspiracy. All the time, we kept hearing screams coming from the golf course and we were shocked to find out what was going on. My wife was one of the ladies who got one; I was there and it was just amazing.”
Redstone is a unique course, with each hole offering a completely new experience. Another unique aspect of Redstone is its location. It is a nine-minute drive from Red Mountain Resort to the golf course, which is located at the end of the downtown area. So it’s less than a five-minute drive from the main street of Rossland to a world-class ski area or golf course.
Another way to enjoy the surroundings
Rossland is home to an outstanding trail network and Redstone has partnered both with the City of Rossland and the Kootenay Columbia Trails Society to allow trails on the golf course property. Redstone is at the centre of the trail system used by walkers, mountain bikers and hikers. The Trails Society maintains the trails and they are equally suitable for beginner, intermediate and advanced enthusiasts.
Fisher said last year Redstone dedicated a visually stunning trail to Louis Joe; Joe was a Chinese citizen of Rossland who, back during the mining boom days, would walk the produce from his farm into town and sell it from there. His farm is now part of the golf course and this new trail now connects the city to the course.
“We’ve really enjoyed creating this community partnership,” said Fisher. “We plan to build a lot more trails in the future. Some of the most arduous downhill mountain biking trails are right on our property. It’s interesting that people could be walking or riding the trails 20 yards from a hole and golfers never even see them.”
Fisher said the trails are nothing like city trails. They wind through the mountains and along creeks and are an amazing way to see Rossland and the surrounding area. Redstone is very proud to be a part of it all.
These golfers enjoy the challenge
Rossland is a city of outdoor enthusiasts and those who enjoy an adventure-filled lifestyle. This is evident in the local golfers that attend the course.
“Redstone is home to an amazing number of walkers of all ages,” Fisher said. “Lots of people would call you crazy for walking Redstone, with all of the drops and elevation changes. But we have some women in their late 60s and early 70s walking the course who have had knee and shoulder replacements, carrying their own bags. I think that is a testament to the people that live in the area and how important a healthy, active lifestyle is to them.”
