Golf and fish along the Fraser river

Sandpiper Golf Resort is offering sport fishing and golf packages

by Joni Krats Sandpiper Golf Resort is set along the Harrison River, at Harrison Mills, B.C. This river is home to a rebounding population of prehistoric white sturgeon. These fish are the largest freshwater sport fish in the world, and are known for their feisty, aggressive habits—which appeals to sport fishers. Since sturgeon are making a population comeback, they are available for catch-and-release sport fishing only. Sandpiper partnered with BC Sportfishing Group to offer a unique package of fishing and golf. Dubbed Hook, Line & Sink It, the program combines 18 holes of golf at Sandpiper and half a day of fishing for sturgeon in the Harrison and Fraser rivers. The course at Sandpiper was designed by Canadian Russ Olsen, and features a gently sloping layout on a walkable, par 72 course. One touch of whimsy is present at the signature 15 hole, in the form of a Sasquatch footprint. The course provides showers and locker rooms, as well as a nicely stocked pro shop. Participants can enhance their experience by staying at Sandpiper Golf Resort at the charming Rowena's Inn on the River to make a little holiday out of their adventure. Rowena's evokes the impression of a Jane Austen-era English manor house, but with all the modern conveniences.
