Bill Penny, CPGA Master Professional gives tips on the Camrose Golf Course

by Lisa Crane

General tip:

Sand play, ball embedded:

Take a solid stance with both feet aimed left of the pin (open); you must keep your shoulders square to the target. The club enters the sand approximately one inch behind the ball, and your club face must be closed and square to the target. Decelerate through the ball with your hands finishing high. The sand will push the ball out and will come out with overspin, thus resulting in a running shot.

Tip on playing the Camrose Golf Course:

Hole 6: This blind tee shot requires a shot of only 165 yards to lay up short of the creek (a short par 4). This leaves you with a nice 135-yard uphill shot over the creek to the green.

Hole 12: This is also a short par 4—a risk-and-reward for the long-ball hitter. You can drive the green, which requires a tee shot of 250 yards to carry over the creek. The percentage shot is a tee shot of 170 yards, leaving you with a short iron to the green.
