The pictureesque Golden Golf Club invites one and all to bask in its natural beauty

by Brittni Dale

Golden is a pretty town in the heart of the Kootenay Rockies. It is near six of the most amazing national parks that all of Canada has to offer: Banff, Glacier, Jasper, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Yoho. And if this weren’t enough, the Golden Golf Club also proudly calls Golden home.

The Golden Golf Club is a fantastic golf resort situated in the Columbia Valley between the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges. The sense of seclusion and intimacy is immediate—there are no residences on or around the golf course. Every hole is entirely lined by natural forest. With the Rocky Mountains serving as the backdrop for the course, the Golden Golf Club is truly like a postcard.

Many who have never played the Golden Golf Club have heard the name—If not for its numerous wildlife sightings including eagles, coyotes and black bears—perhaps for its mention in the Guinness World Records. On September 29, 1984, The Longest Hole was played as a fundraiser; the record-setting length was from Parson to Golden, a total distance of 20¼ miles.

The Golden Golf Club is member-owned, but is open to the public as well. The summer months of 2011 prove to be particularly welcoming for the ladies. Ladies Day is featured every Tuesday from May through September, between 2:30 and 5:30 pm.
