Selkirk Secondary wins provincial golf championship

Julia Dereniwsky and her teammates on Kimberley's Selkirk Secondary School golf team finished in first place at the British Columbia A Golf Championship in Osoyoos on May 27 of this year—the first ever golf provincials win for Selkirk. The team beat out eight others in order to take the top spot at the tournament, though not without some initial difficulties.
“The weather on the first day started nice, but then it started storming," said Dereniwsky. "There was hail and strong winds, and our team struggled on our day one scores. But on the second day we came together and posted some pretty good scores.”
The team at Selkirk practices at the Kimberley Golf Club, and Dereniwsky said that that was one of the most exciting parts of winning that championship.
“All of us on the golf team are seniors, so it’s nice to have our first provincial win as a group,” she said. “We’ve all grown up with each other so long, so to accomplish this all together was really great.”
