The club executive and members at the picturesque Fauquier golf course have their work cut out for them after a major erosion and sloughing of several of their fairways towards Arrow Lake.

The Fauquier golf course, near Nakusp in the West Kootenay is crumbling, and sliding towards a neighbouring lake and officials aren't exactly sure why. Water pooled on several fairways, and there are large craters that have appeared on the course.

"It's not the first time that has happened, but in my memory, it's the worst that I've seen. There's no questions about it, it's quite a mess," Fauquier fire chief and golf club member John Banta told Daybreak South's Chris Walker.

Two out of nine holes at the Fauquier and District Golf Club were quite heavily damaged—both between the lake and the now-crumbled bluff where the clubhouse sits. He wasn’t sure what caused the damage, but he believes the warm temperatures mixed with rain and melting snow had a hand in the sloughing.

We will provide updates as the spring continues and hopefully the Fauquier golf course will be playable sooner than later.
