The Golden Golf Club is ready for the 2014 season with top notch course conditions and a forward step on the technological side. Keeping up to date with tech trends, the club has released a new app this year as well as an online pro shop. Staff have also added WiFi to the RV park, so that players can keep connected during their stay-and-play visits.

Tech it forward

Graeme Kreiner, head professional at Golden Golf Club, said the club is very excited about the release of its new app, which has a lot of features that are going to make golfer’s games a lot more accessible.

“You can keep score on there and post scores directly to Golf Canada for handicap purposes,” he said, “and it has GPS. so it will track where you are on the course and tell you how far you are to certain hazards.”

The app is going to be available for both android and Apple phones and according to Kreiner can function even lengthy distances from the course.

“You can easily book tee times, just three simple clicks from anywhere,” he said. “I actually was showing (the GPS to) my brother in Florida, and it showed me that I was like 5000 kilometres from the Hole 1 green, so it works everywhere.”

Another big release for the club this year is its online pro shop, complete with a variety of discounts for those who decide to order from the web.

“Basically, you can go on there, order clubs, and we’ll deliver them to you,” said Kreiner. “We also have a number of promos where if you spend more than 100 bucks, you can get a gift certificate for a percentage of your purchase. And there are a number of items with online pricing.”

Be sure to check out the shop at golfgolden.golfventoryapps.com or from the Pro Shop link on the club website.

Best conditions in years

Though the Golden Golf Club is following along with the trends of some of the larger urban golf courses, Kreiner assures players that the course is remaining peaceful as ever.

“It’s a kind of big time golf with a small town feel,” he said. “On each hole, you’re all by yourself. The only people you see are the group in front of you, the group behind you, and maybe the beverage cart. There are a number of great mountain views, and it’s very playable. There’s no hidden hazards; everything is right in front of you. There are very few blind shots, if any.”

And as for what he’s most excited about this season, Kreiner said that it definitely has to be the conditions of the course.

“This is my third year out here, and this is the first year we’ve opened with no temporary greens,” he said. “The course just came through the winter exceptionally, so the greens really are looking fantastic... Talking to some of the long-time members, they’ve said they’re the best they’ve seen in seven, 10 years, some say ever.”

Club selection tip from Graeme Kreiner:

“Right off the tee, it can be tempting to hit with your drivers every time. But sometimes it’s better to just use a 3-wood or a hybrid just to get into a better position to attack the pins on the green.”
