Kelly Hrudey and Friends Charity Golf Classic
$70,000 raised in 2012

This August, Copper Point Golf Club will be hosting the Kelly Hrudey and Friends Charity Golf Classic for the second time. After all of the success of the first go-round, Kelly Hrudey and the team at Copper Point just knew that they had to make an encore performance.
“It was a huge success last year,” said Brian Schaal, general manager at Copper Point. “We raised about $70,000 for the charities.”
All proceeds from the tournament go to three different charities, Hrudey’s choice being the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre, located in Calgary. The two local organizations the tournament supports are the Summit Youth Centre—a boys and girls club in Invermere—and the Hockey Canada Skills Academy that runs out of J.A. Laird Elementary School.
This year, the classic is expected to have a great turnout of 100 players compared to last year’s 80, including a variety of celebrity endorsers returning from the 2012 tournament.
“Committed again is Mantracker Terry Grant—the original mantracker,” Schaal said. “And of course we have Kelly Hrudey, as well as Cassie Campbell, W. Brett Wilson—formerly on Dragon’s Den—and Mason Raymond from the Vancouver Canucks.”
Kelly Hrudey and Friends is greatly reliant on sponsorship, and they receive a great amount of support from Scotiabank as well as the club’s partner sponsor, Safeway.
“We also do breakfast and dinner sponsors, and hole sponsors,” noted Schall.
The team at Copper Point has high hopes for the tournament to continue its success from last year, so that they can help to provide support for youth development programs for years to come. With the support of so many in the public eye as well as enthusiastic community backing, there’s no doubt that the Kelly Hrudey and Friends Charity Classic will evolve into a legacy that Copper Point Golf Club can really be proud of.
