The standard 52 degree wedge that comes with most club sets does not have enough loft for those shots in and around bunkers, as well as the rough. A 60 degree wedge has too much loft for most amateurs. The answer is the Nike VR X3X 56 degree Toe Sweep Wedge, which delivers distance, height and spin combined with a very soft feel.

This wedge has a dual sole, meaning that the club has a wide sole near the toe and a very narrow sole at the heel. The result is that the club head slides through the ball very easily, especially when coming off the toe. The X3X has deeper, closer grooves, referred to as “high frequency,” which produce a high trajectory with greater spin. After a few practice shots in the bunker, the club produced a consistent shot for me.

This is a nice looking club with a satin chrome finish made of 8620 carbon steel, a Dynamic Gold shaft and Nike’s Golf Pride Velvet 360 grip. The club also comes in a black satin color. This club conforms to the USGA and R&A rules and for around $120 is a good buy.
