Improve your putting to lower your score
In a game of golf, half of your score usually comes from putting. Ping has produced a training device to help improve your putting. The device is attached to the shaft of your putter (the cradle) and uses your cell phone. To be compatible, you need an iPhone 4 or an iPod Touch 4th generation. The iPing Putter app is a free download through the iTunes app store. Once you have downloaded the app on your phone, head for the putting green.
The key technology of the app contains both accelerometers for linear movement and gyroscopes for rotational movement. Each time you putt, the app records data based on:
1. Stroke type – path of the putter head.
2. Impact angle – degree of angle at impact.
3. Tempo – measures backswing relative to forward swing.
With that data, the golfer can analyze his or her own stroke. Brad Schweigert, Ping’s director of engineering in Phoenix, stated that, “this device gives players their own personal coach.” The app will also indicate what you need to practice to develop consistency and will compare your stroke with touring pros. Lastly, the app will even calculate a putting handicap (PHcp).
For around $30 at Golf Town, those bad putting days just might be reduced.
