At $399, the RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver by Callaway is one of the best club deals of 2013. This club has the lowest center of gravity of any adjustable driver, allowing for a higher launch angle and more loft. The driver also features a forged composite crown—one of Callaway’s more recent technologies to help players get everything they need out of their clubs.

Forged composite

What is forged composite? It is a new method of using carbon fibre that uses a paste of fibres mixed with resin that can be squeezed to form almost any shape (like the crown of a golf club). This is different from the traditional method of using carbon fibre, where the fibre is flattened and fitted into sheets that are later inserted with resin and then shaped into whatever they are being used for. Forged composite is also being used in the production of Lamborghini cars.

This new method allows for the driver to be lighter and stronger and have a faster head speed than one made of titanium—like Callaway’s older Diablo Edge. Many players using clubs with Callaway’s forged composite technology have found that their drives are increased by a distance of nearly 10 yards, thanks to the increased power-to-weight ratio.

OptiFit

The RAZR Fit Xtreme features something called an OptiFit hosel—an addition to the club located directly adjacent to the club head that allows for adjustment of the face angle between open, square and closed position. This allows the golfer to have more specific settings, to improve both launch angle and trajectory.

On the driver head, players will also find additional adjustment abilities with Callaway’s OptiFit weights. Respectively weighing 13 grams and one gram, these weights can be rearranged to create a shift of the center of gravity of the clubhead, allowing the golfer to select from a variety of different tee shots.

Speed frame face

The Speed Frame Face is an element of the club that allows for fast ball speed and maximum distance by having the clubface be thicker on the sweet spot, with the outer edges being more thinned out.

Not only does this provide drives with a longer, more consistent distance, but also gives the player the satisfying sound and feel that Callaway drivers are known for. Golfers who hit the ball nice and square with the RAZR Fit Xtreme will be rewarded with a swift and loud click—and a feeling like the drive will go for miles.
