Phil Mickelson signing thumbs up
The design process for the new Mickelson National Golf Club of Canada is underway with ground breaking planned for this fall.

Mickelson National Golf Club of Canada is going to be a centerpiece of Harmony, a 1,700-acre community built by partners Qualico Communities and Bordeaux Developments.

“I could not be more excited about the partnership we’ve formed for my first signature golf course in Canada,” said Phil Mickelson. “The Calgary area has a huge number of golf fans and players and we plan to create an outstanding golf course – one that’s both fun for amateurs and challenging enough to host the world’s best players in a PGA Tour event.”

Windmill Golf Group’s roots began in the 1950’s when Lawrence Ehlert – who managed a small 9 hole golf course in Southern Alberta for 30 years – expanded the course to 18 holes. Lawrence’s passion for the golf course business was admirable to others and especially to his son, Ron. Ron Ehlert grew up working at the golf course his father operated, driving tractors and mowing grass. When time came to choose a profession, Ron decided to further his education and went on to become a Landscape Architect. He was involved with the design and construction of dozens of golf courses around Alberta including some local courses such as Elbow Springs Golf Club, McCall Lake and Lakeside Greens. Ron had the opportunity to become the majority shareholder of Elbow Springs and had the great experience of designing, building, and managing the golf course for almost 20 years before retiring. He still owns Elbow Springs and is President of Windmill Golf Group creating a stepping stone for his son, Barry.

Barry Ehlert continues the family legacy with a huge enthusiasm for golf and the golf business. He is a leader in his own right as Owner and Managing Partner of The Hamptons, Boulder Creek, Silverwing Links, Harvest Hills, Springbank Links Golf Clubs located in Calgary as well as Edmonton’s Northern Bear Club and the Wilderness Club in Montana.

The design process for the new Mickelson National Golf Club of Canada is in progress with the ground breaking planned for this fall and full construction taking place in 2015.
